Q: What is the difference between a software update and a software upgrade?
A: A software update is an incremental change. A software update typically provides bug fixes or minor functionality improvements. For example, one can update from Acrobat Pro 9.0 to Acrobat Pro 9.4. Updates are typically free.

A software upgrade provides a completely new version of an application. For example, to change from version 9 to version 10 of a product is a software upgrade. Upgrades typically require a new license and a new purchase.
