Q: How do phone options compare?
A: The following table compares features among campus telephones, Skype,and magicJack.

Q: Why does my campus phone line cost so much more than my home phone line?
A: Your campus phone is a business phone at business rates. You're comparing it to residential phone service. AT&T business phone charges range from $39/mo ($468/yr) for local calls only, to $50/mo ($600/yr) for a single line "Unlimited Local and Long Distance for Business" plan.

You can use any standard telephone handset. If you want a speakerphone with message waiting light and caller ID that is around $80.

Campus Enabled Voice Mail can deliver your voicemail messages (as attached sound files: .gsm or .mp3) to up to 3 email accounts, and it can send you notifications via email or text message (cellphone/alpha-pager) that alert you that you have received new voicemail messages.
Included with a subscription, or $20.00/yr
Voicemail messages alerts can now be sent to your email address, or by text message to your mobile phone.

Campus phone service is independently powered and the voice network is not tied to the data network. So during a power outage 911 and phones still works.

Do I need to dial area and country codes? area codes only for calls outside the 530 area code, country codes only for calls outside the US country and area/city codes required for all calls. E.g. Dialing the main office requires dialing 1-530-752-0350 an area code is assigned to the number, so follow the seme conventions as a normail landline.

Can I lose my online number? “Yes, you can lose your online number (SkypeIn) if you do not follow the online number terms of service detailed during the purchase process. Unfortunately, if you don't use your number as per the policy and in some cases at a minimum usage level, then the carrier takes it away from Skype and there is nothing we [Skype] can do.”

If your subscription includes more than one country, then this is the total amount of minutes allowed per month on your account, and is not a separate limit for each country. Once these limits are exceeded Skype will charge normal rates and a connection fee for any additional minutes used. Subscriptions are for individual use only. Each subscription is to be used by one person only and is not to be shared with any other user (whether via a PBX, call centre, computer or any other means).”
